Window switcher hanging

Description

Posted somewhere a bug or a forum post about this before.

The alt + tab window switcher is hanging and i need to change the window by pressing a button, then it goes away and changes window.

seems to be caused by the fact that i had gnome-settings-daemon running.

I don't know if this is a GNOME or an Enlightenment bug.

I've never seen this issue..hmm. Can you provide more info, some steps to reproduce or something more we can go on ?

I was always running a script after enlightenment startup executing: trayer .. args gnome-settings-daemon gnome-keyring-daemon nm-applet

I suppose the keyring is started by the sessionmanager that if im not mistaken is spawned from the settings-daemon.. I have not put much time in figuring out this, but i have been changing a bit between starting the settings-daemon and not, thats why i had the keyring aswell.

However it doesn't always work, but if it happens i can fix it by disabeling the settings-daemon.

in the cases it does happend, it happends every time i start the computer and try it out as the first thing i do. testing if it works normally before starting any of the mentioned programs (and it does). then starting each, and it hangs on this.

ill check when i have the possibility to start the setttings-daemon and then kill it if it has any effect.

Apart from the settings-daemon and mentioned programs i use nautilus from gnome, but with --no-desktop.

if you have any idea from where i can gather some output or debug info i can do this.

Created an attachment (id=22) [details] output from gnome-settings-daemon

included output from gnome-settings-daemon..

if i started gnome-settings-daemon, then kill it i need to log completely out from enlightenment and start enligthenment again before the window switcher works normally again.

also there are no other programs started than gnome-settings-daemon, by the daemon, that show up on ps -A.

This could be because gnome-settings-daemon was started by a script. I'm not 100% sure on this however. When I was using gnome-settings-daemon, I created a .desktop for it and placed it in E's startup applications..never had an issue. May be something to try.

Does it happen regularly and/or is it reproducible? I have been having that kind of issue randomly for a long time, but have never been able to find a way to reproduce it. And I don't have gnome-settings-deamon.

No, not always, except lately. But when it happens with gnome-settings-daemon. Have you checked that when it happens the daemon hasn't been started by something else like Totem?

I am running UbuntuStudio?.

I don't have anything Gnomish on my comp. But I've found a way to reproduce it:

  • put your computer under much load (or better, remove some RAM, I downgraded

to 256MB for the sake of testing, and do some memory-intensive task),

  • press [alt]+[tab], and release them *immediately*, *before* the task

switching window appears on screen,

  • if you released early enough, the window will appear, you will be able to

interact using [up] and [down] buttons as expected, but the window will be here and you'll have to press [esc] or similar to let it go away.

Seems to be 100% reproducible here.
